Sculpture Route

The sculptures offer different views from all sides – and open up new perspectives. One is bound to get attracted by these works while strolling through the grounds of the resort. They make an impact already from a distance and entice you to come closer and confront yourself with this art. Many of the spectators who have come closer have watched these stones transforming themselves from their primitive state. Many are reminded of the artists who created these ten sculptures out of bare stones, each vividly different from the other, in five weeks in July 2002. In five weeks, the artists with their human capacity and great competence have casted a spell on many.

These works have been created as a part of the project Sculpture Way Rheinland-Pfalz that runs through the entire federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz and has  reached in 2002 its so far most northern point in Bad Neuenahr.

On 24th June, ten raw stones, up to 3 cubic meter in volume and tons in weight each, were delivered from the Riedener quarry to the Ahrwiese at the Landgrafenufer.

The artists started their work on 2nd July transforming the meadow into a sculptors’ open-air studio, dust-laden from time-to-time, observed by growing crowds of art connoisseurs and accompanied by the media.

On 1st and 2nd August the sculptures found their ultimate locations that the artists themselves had selected. The sculpture of Bertrand Ney stands right in front of the Thermal Bathhouse today.

In the Spa Gardens the works of Georg Ahrens, Martine Andernach, Willi Bauer, Ljubo de Karina, Christoph Mancke and von Friedhelm Pankowski are placed, and in the adjacent
Dahlien-Garden the works of Ingbert Brunk, Karl-Heinz Deutsch and Maria Claudia Farina.

Ten monumental sculptures, each unique, are placed in the spa town Bad Neuenahr und invite you to appreciate them.
